Epic,

Great effort on the race. The course was fantastic. The volunteers were awesome! My only constructive thought is to get a few more portable toliets. :)

See you at Moss Park in March.

Hi...Here are my thoughts on today's half-marathon:
Positives: Beautiful course. Really friendly course volunteers. Perfect weather. (Thanks for arranging that!)The police presence was excellent at every road crossing. Plus they were friendly as well.
Areas for improvement: Several aid stations had no water. I wish there was water at every aid station. The race "packets" contained almost nothing. A couple of ads and a bib. Why was it necessary to show up on Friday to pick that up? No info on the race included. I also didn't understand why I had to go to a different location to pick up the cotton t-shirt. Finally, only one time marker (at mile ONE!) Not even a time marker at the finish line. I know this was a very "frugal" race, but come on, at least have a time marker at the finish!
One BIG problem (for me): OK, I know you are going to read this and go "idiot!" But I ran the half today and had a PR... by a lot. However, no one, including you guys, will ever know that because I ran without a transponder. Why? Well, I showed up as directed on Friday afternoon and got my "packet". I asked if I was all set for the race, and was told yes. I returned to my hotel (I am from out of town) and discovered there was no transponder in the packet. This is not my first race, but it is the only race I have run where we didn't receive the transponders in the packets. Because everything else was kind of cheap with the race too, I assumed maybe you guys just weren't using them. (By the way, I had a very expereinced triathlete staying with me and he also assumed you guys must be running the race without them since it wasn't in the packet and since I was given no instructions about how to receive one...he was with me when I picked up the packet). So, I showed up, on time, with my bib on, ran the race (and did really well for me!) only to cross the finish line and have the young girl ask for my transponder. When I said "there wasn't one in my packet," she replied "You were supposed to get one from us this morning." Again, you guys must be thinking "how could he not know that?" Well, I have never had to do that in any other race and no one told me I needed to do it for this one. I am still trying to figure out what the purpose of picking up the packets on Friday was? Anyway, I am not expecting you guys to do anything about it...or to validate the results I had on my Garmin. I'm just saying that making things clearer in the future might help. I sure would have liked to have recorded my results today.

Awesome course for a first-timer, although we weren't expecting the hill! We just thought it would be great if we could see some more signs for how far we had to go, especially towards the end. That last mile just took so long and it would've been reassuring to see maybe a 12.5, 12.75 or something. Also, we weren't sure what our time was and would be great if there was a huge timer right next to the finish line. We were toward the end, so I'm not sure if it was taken down by the time we got there. Lastly and not least, the volunteers were really great and super supportive!

We'll be back!

From Ivy Knight...

"Julia, Z and Kim

Thank you so much for such a great event. Winning the overall female was the PR of a lifetime ( especially at my age!). I finally came back down to earth today. Yet, still have not stopped smiling. I am so sorry did not get back in time for the awards. Thank you for the plaque. I carried around in my purse all day. No, I am not joking! Just in case I wanted to look at it while running errands.

I have competed in some of the tris this summer. I want you to know you exemplify what competitive comraderie should be in the tri and running community. And I look forward to many more of your events. Good luck with the new moniker. I know my Saturday morning spent with you all was truly Epic! for me.

Much success to you
Ivy Knight"
