Hello, Epic.
Thank you for sending me my plaque for winning my age group this year in the 5k. My whole family-3 children, and husband- enjoyed the run. I have directed several races myself(10 or so between 300- 2000 runners) and know the organization it takes for it to run smoothly. I am sure all the feedback will only help you succeed next year. The only valid points that I would encourage you to consider change are the following:
Clearer course markers and directions....very confusing for all segments.
Additional volunteers at each turn with signs (arrows, mile markers, etc) to ensure futher clarity on direction as well as police runners since you have so many races occuring at the same time. Trust me i know finding volunteers is very difficult. Possibly offer a free sponsorship if the organization brings 20 volunteers if you do not want to have a charity receive the proceeds.
Also, I would suggest changing the start/finish if at all possible..bottlenecked runners, people falling, and confusing again. No one could hear. etc. You may want to start your 5k first-being these are typically your fastest runners- or your 10k and 1/2 much earlier like 30min.( Being a holiday run, all races seem to have a lot of walkers.)
I thought the food was fine. You can never make everyone happy.
Good luck on the 2011 season, and we intend on running as a family again next year.
Bests,
Yvonne
